Zenel beg Mahmutbegolli was one of the wealthiest, prominent and leading figures of Peja and the surrounding region. He lived in second half of the 19th century when also the stone tower along with the larger complex of buildings was constructed. In time, most of the buildings of this complex were destroyed by wars, natural disaster and bad urban planning. From the overall complex only the main building, three store Stone tower, who is named after Zenel beg survived. The Stone Tower nowadays functions as a boutique hotel and a traditional restaurant and it is run by descendants of Zenel beg.
